Neverwinter’s Great Weapon Fighter isn’t to be trifled with. It’s not just the mouthful of a name that strikes fear in the hearts of enemies far and wide. Oh no, it’s also the medium to heavy armor and the ginormous two-hander that requires years of intense strength training to lift.
Fortunately for Neverwinter fans, learning to play the class doesn’t take that long, and the first part of your Great Weapon Fighter education starts with with our class reveal video after the break. The Great Weapon Fighter
Role: Damage dealer and secondary defender
Some fighters rely on spells, others prefer tricks and illusions. You believe that all encounters can be resolved quickly with the swift swing of a two-handed weapon. The thrill of taking on multiple enemies at once drives you into battle far ahead of your party. And if necessary, you will not hesitate to sacrifice yourself to ensure your party’s survival.
You believe that shields are cumbersome and deter your ability to fight. Your innate instinct allows you to drive your weapon deep into the hearts of your foes with deadly precision and timing. In the heat of battle, your versatile combat ability allows you to perform different roles within the party. While your defender absorbs the brunt of the damage, you fight to protect your other party members from ambush. And if your defender is down, you are the first to absorb incoming damage keeping your allies from harm.
The Great Weapon Fighter can be effective in any combat situation. Abilities such as Avalanche of Steel can be used to clear crowds with area-of-effect damage when your party is overrun. To gain the upper hand in combat, lead the charge by using your Slam ability to slow enemies down and deal damage, allowing your party to finish them with ease. If your party is surrounded, use the mighty battle chant, Roar, to knock groups back for a vital second wind.
In desperate situations, the Great Weapon Fighter can cast Daring Shout to mark nearby enemies — the stronger the enemies, the more defenses he gains to fend them off while his party recovers. Finally, use Sprint, a rechargeable Utility Power, to close the distance on anyone attempting to escape their fate and deal the finishing blow!
Versatility and survivability are keys to being an effective Great Weapon Fighter. With devastating damage-dealing ability and survival powers, you will be an essential member of your dungeon party. Stay resolute and lead your party to victory when Neverwinter launches!
